Enabling Advanced Admin Logging in NetAgent

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

All versions of Knowledgebase.

PROCESS:

The admin log is in an .xml file (naadminxxxxx.xml) which captures all SOAP requests and responses placed from the Admin console to the server and back. Performing the following change to the Authentication.asp file on the NetAgent Application Server will enable advanced logging in naadminxxxxx.xml for the Admin console. This log can then be used to troubleshoot issues occuring in NetAgent Admin console.

Steps:

  1. Log on to the NetAgent Application Server.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to
    • nGen Moxie Channels NetAgent prior to 7.0C:\Program Files\Talisma\NetAgent Server\IPADDRESS\http\ADMINASP.
    • nGen Moxie Channels NetAgent 7.0 or later C:\Program Files\nGenera\NetAgent Server\IPADDRESS\http\ADMINASP.
    • Open the file Authentication.asp in Notepad or any text editor of your choice.
    • Look for the line that reads 'Ctl.Log = True.
    • Delete the ' so that the line now reads Ctl.Log = True. Save the file.
    • Login to the admin and perform the operation(s) that causes the issue.
    • Collect the admin logs to review for information related to the issue. The admin logs are created in C:\Windows\Temp or C:\WINNT\Temp (by default) *, with the name naadminxxxxx.xml where xxxxx is a number that is based on the day, the date and the file number.

*In non-default situations the files will be created in the location defined in the TEMP system environmental variable.

      AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:

Administrators wishing to collect additional logging to Moxie Channels NetAgent.

      ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Note: From a command prompt window, enter %windir%\naadmin* to locate the directory where the naadminxxxxx.xml file is kept in on the server.
