THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:
Knowledgebase version 8.0.x and earlier.
PROCESS:
In Knowledgebase 8.1.X and newer, the Autonomy Search Engine binds to the IP address and it is not reccommended that you change the IP address once the product has been sucessfully installed.
If attempting to change the IP address of either the KB Admin Control Panel or the Customer Portal, the following steps must be performed for the application to function properly, otherwise you may encounter a "404 Page Not Found" error when viewing articles.
- Use the IIS, Internet Service Manager, to make the IP/port changes to the virtual sites:
- The Administrative Control Panel is labeled "ClientPortal."
- The Customer Portal is labeled "CustomerPortal."
- Go to the registry under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" > "SOFTWARE" > "KnowledgeBase.net" > "isapi"
- There are two keys labeled "ClientPortal" and "CustomerPortal." For each site that is being changed, set the "ServerName" to the new IP and the "ServerPort" to the new port that was used in IIS.
- Restart Web Services (w3svc) through the command line by typing "net stop w3svc" and then "net start w3svc."
- Login to your KB Admin Control Panel.
- Click the Administration tab and the System Settings link.
- Update the Portal URL with the new IP address.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
If you have previously adjusted DNS entries to use friendly host names for any of the old IP addresses, those entries will need to be updated to reflect the new IP address(es).
