Browser Session Crossover

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

All versions of Knowledgebase.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

When you have a direct article link from one Portal to an article in another Portal that opens a second browser window, the session for the second browser will highjack the first open browser so that the second Portal is now displayed in both browser windows.

ROOT CAUSE:

This issue is caused by the way in which Internet Explorer manages Internet sessions, and is a known browser limitation.

SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:

Be sure to close the first browser before opening the next Portal.

AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:

All customers.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

For more information on how Internet Explorer 8 utilizes session merging- see this MSDN article
Previously you could launch a new session in another version of the browser; now you must actually log out of the Portal if it has any security involved.
