PDF Articles Open in a Window Outside the Portal Frame

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

When accessing PDF articles from within the Customer Portal, some Customers report that viewing the article launches another program (Adobe Reader/Acrobat/etc) external to the Portal.

ROOT CAUSE:

This behavior is the result of a setting within the Adobe application in place on the Customer's machine that determines whether PDFs can be displayed within a browser.

SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:

This behavior can be modified by following these steps on the Customer's computer:
  1. Launch Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Click Internet in the left display pane.
  5. Ensure that "Display PDF in browser" is checked.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close Adobe Reader to apply settings.
  8. Access the PDF formatted article to view within the portal frame
