Microsoft Office Files Do Not Convert After Server Restart

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

Knowledgebase version 8.3.x and prior.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

Microsoft Office files do not convert to HTML after a server reboot.

 

ROOT CAUSE:

The "convertToHtml.dll" service is not activating when the server is rebooted for some installations.

SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:

  1. Log into your Knowledgebase application server with an Administrator level account.
  2. Click the START button, then select RUN.
  3. Type "CMD" in the RUN dialog box. Press ENTER which will bring up a DOS prompt.
  4. Copy and Paste the following line into command line:
    regsvr32 x:\knowledgebase\applicationprogram\comobjects\Import\converter\convertToHtml.dll
    press ENTER.

    Note:  Make sure there is a space between "regserv32" and "x:\". x is the hard drive where the Knowledgebase was installed.

This will enable the convertToHtml service.

AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:

Knowledgebase Internal Users attempting to convert files created with Microsoft Office to HTML.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This issue is not found in Knowledgebase version 9.0 and later, which do not utilize the same COM+ objects found in prior versions.
