Articles Created in Office Cannot Be Converted to HTML Inside the Knowledgebase

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:
Knowledgebase versions 8.3.x and earlier.
ISSUE DESCRIPTION:
Articles created in Microsoft Office can't be converted to HTML inside the Knowledgebase.
ROOT CAUSE:
Microsoft Office is not installed or Microsoft Office applications may be challenging the Knowledgebase when the Knowledgebase makes a call to open them.
SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:
Install Microsoft Office:
- Install Microsoft Office on the Server per Microsoft's instructions.
- Click Start, then Settings. Select Control Panel and double-click Administrative Tools. Inside the Administrative Tools, select Component Services.
You should see:
- Expand Computers in the right pane of the console.
- Expand My Computer.
- In the left hand pane expand COM+ Applications.
- Right Click Knowledgebase_Import.
- Choose Properties.
- Choose the Security tab.
- Verify the account name that runs this component and verify that the account is the local administrator account.
Verify Microsoft Office is not requesting input upon startup:
- Log into the server as the account identified in the previous step.
- Open each Microsoft Office application.
- Answer all the pop-up dialogs that appear.
- Close the application.
- Confirm that the application opens without prompting for any input by opening each Office application again.
AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:
Knowledgebase users attempting to convert articles from an Office format into HTML.
