Creating a Link to a Category in the Knowledgebase

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

All versions of Knowledgebase.

PROCESS:

Overview:
Sometimes there is a need to create a link to an actual category in the Knowledgebase. Copying the links will not yield the desired results. However, the Knowledgebase does have a mechanism in place for just this purpose.

Steps:
The categories you wish to link to must already be created. Once this is done, simply log in to the KB Admin Control Panel and follow these steps:
  1. Click the Portal tab at the top of the KB Admin Control Panel.
  2. On the following screen (shown below) click on the name of the Portal where the category you want to link to should display.

  3. Find the section entitled "Website Integration” and click on Configure as shown:
  4. Scroll down to "Option 5: Direct Link to Category" and click on the Knowledgebase containing the category, and then click on the category itself.
  5. The code to copy and paste to link to the category will be displayed in the box below. Simply copy and paste this into your HTML.

NOTE: Some WYSIWIG (What You See Is What You Get) editors such as Microsoft FrontPage will parse the links in an unacceptable manner, making substitutions such as & for %26 and = for %3, thereby making them unusable. In such cases paste the code directly in, do not use “Insert Hyperlink” type functions.

AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:
