Modifying the Ignored Word List in Knowledgebase 8.0.4 and Prior Versions
THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:
PROCESS:
Certain characters and phrases are inherently ignored by the search engine. To avoid errors when using these words, the Knowledgebase application maintains a list that is used to parse them out during a search. This list can be modified if you wish to add or remove a character/phrase from this process. Examples of search terms that might not come up in a normal search include "W-2" and "Item 6." These are due to ignored character and single digit numbers found in the ignored lists aka noise files.
Steps:
- Open the following files in a text editor: (Please note X is the letter of the mapped drive)
- X:\knowledgebase\applicationprogram\ini\indexserver\indexServerParser\expChr.txt
- X:\knowledgebase\applicationprogram\ini\indexserver\indexServerParser\noise.txt
- X:\WINNT\system32\noise.enu
- X:\WINNT\system32\noise.eng
- X:\KnowledgeBaseBackUp\knowledgebase\applicationprogram\ini\indexserver\indexServerParser\english\noise.txt
- Each line of this file is a phrase or character that will be parsed out during a search.
- To add a new item, append it to the end of the file.
- To remove an item, delete the line from the file.
- After the files have been modified, choose Save and proceed to the next steps.
