Search Results Display Article Attributes Which are not Specifically Selected in Search Options Module

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

Knowledgebase versions 8.1, 8.2 and 8.3.2

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

When an External User performs a search in the Customer Portal, the search results summary will display article attributes even if the attributes are not selected in the Search Options module of the Admin Control Panel.

ROOT CAUSE:

This is by design. Knowledgebase uses the selected filters for the search as requested and the search results will display the results based on the Portal configuration. However, when the results are shown the summaries display all the attributes and metadata belonging to the articles that were pulled in the search results. This is why you will see an article attribute in the summary despite not selecting Attributes in the Search Options module.

SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:

This is working as designed. The search filtering uses only the selections specified in the KB Admin Control Panel. However, when the search results are displayed, all of the attributes and metadata are displayed in the article summaries.
