How to Gather System and Application Event Logs

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

Administrators of all versions of Knowledgebase and Moxie Channels NetAgent who need to supply Moxie Software Support with Event Viewer logs.

PROCESS:

From the Event Viewer, it is possible to export event logs in two formats - EVT or text. The EVT format logs can be loaded into an Event Viewer on another computer, making it easy to work with. However, text logs contain more accurate time stamps. Your Moxie Software Support Engineer may ask for either format.

If asked for a text log, please review the steps provided here under the heading "Creating Log Archives in the Event Viewer Format".

Use the following steps to obtain the System and Application Event Viewer Logs in an EVT format:

  1. In Windows, select and Right Click on My Computer and then select Manage.
     
  2. The Computer Management window will appear.
     
  3. Expand Event Viewer and select the Application Event Log.
     
  4. Click on the Action in the menu bar and then select Save Log File As ...
     
  5. Give the file a name, and select the path to the spot you wish to save the file.
    Note: .The default Save as type is .evt. 
  6. Next, select the System Event Log

  7. Click on the Action in the menu bar and then select Save Log File As ...
     
  8. Give the file a name, and select the path to the spot you wish to save the file.
The files are now ready to be zipped and sent to your Moxie Software Support Engineer for review
