Why do we see 'No License found for IDOL Server' under application logs in event viewer?

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

Knowledgebase 8.1.X and later

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

This is the error message which appears in the application event log viewer in an Autonomy Knowledgebase installation.

License File errors with IDOL 7.3.4 in the event viewer:

  The IDOL license.log:
13/11/2008 11:19:10 LICENSE: Error : Failed to retrieve a license from the license server. Error description from server is "License server data file does not contain the specified license type"
13/11/2008 11:19:10 LICENSE: Error : No license found for IDOL Server.

       The DiSH licenseserver.log:
13/11/2008 11:19:10 [0] Failed to provide a license for IDOLPROXY to client 127.0.0.1:11002. License file does not contain the specified license

ROOT CAUSE:

These errors can be attributed to the fact that Autonomy products have gone through a behavioral change that includes a unified licensing system within all components.  The IDOLServer proxy, however, does not require a license in order to run and function as normal.  Our development team is aware of this issue and is working to suppress these false positive error messages.

SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:

If your IDOLServer proxy still starts up and functions as expected, then  you can ignore these license errors; the error messages are being displayed despite the IDOLServer proxy requiring no license to function.  This is a known and harmless issue that does not impact the system.  There is no ETA for this fix, as there is no impact from the error message itself.

AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:

Knowledgebase server administrators
