Buttons not Working in Online Editor

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

Knowledgebase version 9.0 and earlier.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

Buttons in the Online Editor bar are grayed out or do nothing. Similarly, Spell Check and Anchor buttons do not work.

ROOT CAUSE:

Your browser must be configured to check for new versions of the site/page automatically in order for the Online Editor toolbar buttons to work properly. This is due to Internet Explorer caching certain .js files that may impact spell check and hyperlink functions. Internet Explorer should be configured to always check for a new version of a page automatically.

SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools in the menu.
  3. Select Internet Options. 
  4. Under the Temporary Internet Files/Browsing History area , click Settings.
  5. Make sure Automatically is bulleted.
  6. Click OK
  7. Click OK.
  8. Restart your browser. This should resolve this issue.

AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:

Internal users who create articles utilizing the Online Editor may experience this issue depending on their browser configuration settings.
