Knowledgebase Autonomy Services don't Start when the Server Boots

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

Knowledgebase version 8.1.1 and later.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

At server boot up, three of the four Autonomy services do not start:

ROOT CAUSE:

The following messages are found in the Autonomy log files located  in x:\Program Files\Knowledgebase.Net\Autonomy\IDOLServer\DiSH\logs):

[0] Failed to send CHILDKEEPALIVE to child FSFetch. Error code is -56

[0] Failed to send CHILDKEEPALIVE to child IDOLServer. Error code is -56

[0] Failed to send CHILDKEEPALIVE to child HTTPF. Error code is -56

The presence of these messages in the log indicate necessary Autonomy Services are not running. ---

This is applicable typically to machines with multiple NICs but may also be applicable to machines with a single NIC.  This is an undocumented feature of the Autonomy search engine that Knowledgebase uses.

SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:

Manually start the missing Autonomy services on the server.

Stop all the Autonomy services on the system (DiSH first) from the Windows Services panel.  Wait till all the Autonomy services have stopped.  Start Autonomy DiSH, and that should restart all the other autonomy services.  The system is now ready for normal use.
