Is It OK to Delete Article Templates?

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

Clicking on an article produces the error "The template for this article was deleted. The article body security can not be applied."

ROOT CAUSE:

A template has been deleted upon which existing articles are based. In order to avoid this error, create a new template and make a new version of the article with the new template prior to deleting the original template.

SOLUTION OR WORK AROUND:

If you are able to recover the content of the article, create a new version of the article using the new template. This may not be possible, dependant upon your version of Knowledgebase.

AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:

All end users who have deleted templates or are considering deleting obsolete templates.
