Identifying Which User Deleted an Article

THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO:

All versions of Knowledgebase

PROCESS:

Occasionally a Knowledgebase Administrator will contact Moxie Software to ask how to identify which Internal User deleted a particular article.

There is no way to positively identify a specific user who deleted a particular article ID. Once an article is deleted, it is removed from the database as well as from the Admin Control Panel. This makes a positive identification of the "deleter" impossible as there is no longer any history or data associated to the article (as it no longer exists in the database). However, using the User Summary report, it is possible to see which users have deleted articles for a particular date range, just not which specific articles they deleted.

If the time of deletion is known it is possible to use a process of elimination to narrow the list of potential culprits based on which users deleted articles in that time frame, but there is no way to utilize the Admin Panel to positively link the deletion of a specific article ID to a particular user's account.

AFFECTED SYSTEMS & USERS:

Knowledgebase Administrators who wish to identify which Internal User account deleted a particular article.
